New Introduces Service Application in SharePoint 2013-Services application in SharePoint 2013

In SharePoint 2013 below three are main added Service application

  1. Work Management Service Application
  2. Machine Translation Service Application
  3. App Management Service Application

Here is a links to TechNet articles on how to install/configure. There is a great article which covers these services, and how they could be deployed on an ideal farm topology http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219591.aspx.

Work Management Service Application

One of the brilliant features in SharePoint 2013 personal site is providing the user with a single view of all the tasks assigned to him in all the SharePoint sites (projects, teams…etc.). The Work Management service application is responsible for collecting this information and not only from SharePoint sites, the Work Management service application can aggregate the tasks from Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Project server and a custom provider model can be integrated.

Machine Translation Service Application

The translation service provides an automated translation for SharePoint content through the integration with the available cloud-based translation services or it can create translation package to be delivered to a translation vendor and import back the translated content.

Machine Translation Service provides automatic machine translation of files and sites. When the Machine Translation Service application processes a translation request, it forwards the request to a cloud-hosted machine translation service, where the actual translation work is performed. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj163145.aspx

App Management Service Application

Apps for SharePoint are self-contained pieces of functionality that extend the capabilities of a SharePoint website. The App management service is a new service application that enables you to purchase apps from Microsoft marketplace and to create your internal enterprise apps catalogue for hosting internally developed apps.

App management service allows the SharePoint Administrator to manage the Apps available in their farm, permissions and the licenses for these Apps.

App Management Service is part of the new App support within SharePoint 2013. These services, along with the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Subscription Settings Service, have to be configured properly to support the new App model. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161236.aspx#ConfigureAppServices
